Coaching empowers pastors to make adaptive changes that transform the ministry of the church. I work with pastors from all ministry settings and denominations and take particular interest in coaching LGBTQ+ clergy. In the spirit of reparations and economic justice, I offer a reduced rate for Black clergy and clergy serving in positions paid part-time.

My approach to coaching is:

Client-driven – we work on what matters to you
Constructive – you set self-directed, achievable goals
Compassionate – we seek deeper self-understanding without judgment
Curious – we look below the surface of your work and life
Creative – we imagine, reflect, and wonder together
Consistent – we meet regularly, typically once a month
Confidential – as both a coach and a pastor, I hold confidentiality as a high value

Martha helps me solve problems and get unstuck regularly. But more than that, her coaching returns me to my center, to God’s call to me, to my gifts, and to find faithful ways forward that bring life. – J, a Presbyterian Church (USA) pastor

Martha is a ray of insight when it is needed, a (virtual) embrace of comfort when I’m discouraged, a word of challenge and focus when I am struggling to find direction. – D, a United Church of Christ pastor

Individual and group coaching

Individual Coaching

I work one-on-one with pastors who aim to develop their leadership skills, improve time management, reorganize priorities, develop work-life balance, navigate conflict, reimagine sermon preparation, prepare grant proposals, or discern a new call.

Enneagram Coaching

I am an iEQ9 Accredited Enneagram Practitioner and use the Enneagram as a framework for coaching, focusing on the strengths of the core number and the pathways to development found in the lines, wings, and centers of expression.

Sustaining Clergy

I offer affordable group coaching for clergy seeking support and community. Sessions include theological reflection, discussion of ministry issues, and accountability for planned actions, all grounded in prayer. Each group meets twice-monthly for three months.

Martha has been an invaluable resource and support as I began a new pastorate and explored a new calling. She is compassionate, wise, and kind, but also firm. My ministry would not be as effective without her guidance. – M, a Metropolitan Community Church pastor
