Lord,

It’s after 9, and not fully dark,
but fireflies light the way
while we walk the dogs.
The sky feels peaceful,
but in other places,
storms rage –
the usual kind,
lightning, thunder –
the worse kind,
hail, and high wind –
the worst kind,
tornado sirens wail.

Keep them safe, Lord,
the ones in danger.
Keep them safe.

It’s after 9,
and in the morning,
we’ll go to church,
turn on the lights,
check the sound system,
and listen for You.
Other storms will rage –
the usual kind,
a late usher,
a typo in the bulletin-
the worse kind,
death of a beloved,
a family in distress –
the worst kind,
when we disagree
about You.

Keep us safe, Lord,
from one another.
Keep us safe.

Light the way, Lord,
like the fireflies.
Light the way
You would have us walk together
in Your name. Amen.
