The Season You’re In – Friday Five

As posted by kathrynzj at RevGalBlogPals:

Headquarters for me is the northeast of the United States. Here school is getting back in session, the tease of autumn is in the air (or the hope for the tease of autumn is in the air) and church life is gearing up to full throttle.

One thing I’ve learned with blogging and social media is that the where I live is not necessarily where you live. And so I want to know what September means to you, in your place of the world and time in your life.

This week’s Friday Five is:
What are 5 things that the beginning of September mean to you?

1) Clothes shopping with children, which I find stressful and try to do as much by Internet as possible. (And which once upon a time I did using catalogs and a land-line, I’m that old and so are my children.) This year it feels wistful, as the time for it is drawing to a close. My youngest is a Junior in high school! Ack!
2) Major planning involving multiple calendars — fall is definitely the busy season of the program year at church.
3) Cool nights — at least in this busy season, I can sleep well.
4) Shorter days — sad! We have about eight weeks until we “fall back,” and after that it feels pretty closed in while the days are so short. Not that a person gets to stay home at night (see busy season above).
5) Dixon Ticonderoga #2 soft lead pencils — and other school supplies, but those are my favorite.
Bonus: What’s one thing you could do without?
Fall allergies. I woke up with itchy eyes this morning.

  1. I'm prayerfully resisting going to Staples because really, I have enough school/office supplies — I think. Maybe I could use another notebook? By the way, the Borders in Brunswick is still open and I saw a Bernese Mountain Dog calendar 80% off. No Springer Spaniel calendars though.

  2. For me Lent is the busiest time but fall comes in a close second. And I am fighting off a cold/sinus thing, so yeah, the allergies are ever-present. Peace!
