The Rapture of Canaan by Sheri Reynolds
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This was another church Book Group selection. I enjoyed Reynolds’ writing and her exploration of an eccentric Christian sect. It reminded me of the memoir I read earlier this year, “The Truth Shall Set You Free,” in which a couple moved from one fringe religious group to another. Both books explore the process of awakening and going beyond legalistic limits that are common in fundamentalist Christian communities of all sorts. But I wonder how different some of our supposedly more advanced streams of faith are when they resort to equally medieval mindsets in order to control people?
I don’t want to spoil the plot for those who haven’t read it and will simply say I think it’s a great book.
