Commencement

Interlochen Festival and Commencement 057

Hair a corona,
flat cap tipped back,
face a tangle of
joy and parting,
you commence.

Friends swirl in shade, sun,
embraces shared, a kiss,
tears and connections,
"later," "always,"
you promise.

Gown returned, cap packed,
piles of scores shipped home,
you carry your horn
and life awaits.
You begin.

  1. Congrats indeed – also thanks. I’d never been able to work out why you call it “Commencement” – hadn’t twigged about it being the start of life in a new context.
Glad it was shiney…And here’s to the summer!xx
