Wistful on a Monday Evening

Snowman and his friend went back to school today. The house is quiet, no longer filled with the tones of clarinet and bassoon. The cupboard is bare, peanut butter and milk and cheese and crackers and bread and apples and bananas in need of replenishing. The couch in the guest room is folded back into sitting position, and the door to Snowman's attic is closed, lights out and towels retrieved.

For ten days or so, it will be just us girls and cats and one big dog, until Pure Luck returns. #1 Son checked in via Facebook chat; I don't know when we'll see each other next. I got used to more activity and more company over the past two weeks. Light Princess and I enjoy our girl time, but for tonight, I miss those hungry, skinny musicians, in the homestretch of high school, in the final days of deciding their futures, on the brink of the rest of their lives.

  1. the mom paradox – so proud they can go it independently but we miss them. ((sb))

  2. Wow, can I relate! Offsprings #1&2 were on spring break last week — and now that they are back at college the house is way, way, waaaaaay too quiet!

  3. I know this feeling, and I anticipate more of it in the coming years. It’s hard. I have more compassion for my mother now… I get it.
