Friday Five

Fall Equinox Friday Five

(As posted by yours truly at RevGalBlogPals…)

It's that time of year, at least north of the equator. The windows are
still open, but the darned furnace comes on early in the morning. My
husband went out for a walk after an early supper and came home in full

And yes, where we live, leaves are beginning to turn.

As this vivid season begins, tell us five favorite things about fall:

1) A fragrance — that frosty smell in late autumn that portends snow

2) A color — the deep, deep red of the red maple leaves as they turn

3) An item of clothing — my trusty fleece vest, worn first thing in the morning over a flannel nightgown, or all day long over whatever (Don't tell Stacy and Clinton, okay? They abhor fleece. But they don't live in New England.)

4) An activity — walking at Posh Neighboring Town Nature Preserve with the dogs, crunching through the fallen leaves; it's a great three season place to walk, but I especially love Fall!

5) A special day — there are lots in our family in the Fall: our wedding anniversary is just on the borderline (tomorrow), followed closely by Pure Luck's birthday and my ordination anniversary; later we have Snowman's birthday and the more general special days, Halloween and Thanksgiving. This year I'll say Pure Luck's birthday, because he will actually be home to celebrate this time; he leaves for work the next day.

You don't have to be in RevGalBlogPals to play; if you feel like celebrating the arrival of Fall, join in!

  1. Stacy and Clinton are great for clothing shapes that fit body shapes, but they probably wouldn’t like my paisley turtlenecks either. I’m old enough not to care.

  2. Early Happy Anniversary…I celebrated my special day “today” on Friday Five. And, yes, I totally agree about the crunch of the leaves.

  3. Happy Anniversary! Oh, and I think I’d probably enjoy a fleece vest like yours – I do love to be warm.

  4. Happy Anniversary!
wonderful play! i love your descriptions–absolutely beautiful! enjoy!

  5. Happy anniversary and all those special days. With you on the fleece. This was a fun one. Thanks!

  6. Happy anniversary! I also think walking the dog is more fun in fall than just about any other time — not too hot, not too cold, not too wet. Just right!

  7. Fragrance: Low humidity air
    Color: orange harvest moon
    Clothing: Blue Jeans Jacket
Activity: We have friends who have a huge pumpkin carving party for Halloween. There are many ways for kids to get hurt and that means it is great fun!
Special Day: Today, our anniversary. 21 years today.
Happy Anniversary to you two tomorrow.

  8. Great idea for the Friday five and I really like your answers. I have almost forgotten that smell that hangs in the air just before the first snow fall. Thanks for reminding me.

  9. Happy anniversary (wedding and ord. and happy bday to all!)
My ordination anniversary is Oct 23! :)~

  10. Oh, yes…we have a Posh Neighboring Town as well, thanks to a Ginormous Multinational Corporation being headquartered there. Their parks are wonderful, as is their public garden. It’s 30 miles away…maybe not so neighboring…but it’s worth the trip.

  11. Hmm. Guess I should have said my wedding anniversary, too. It’s my very first one. Perhaps I might be forgiven for not associating it with the advent of fall?
    *looks around*
I also adore the changing leaves, especially the orange ones!

  12. Happy Anniversary and enjoy celebrating Pure Luck’s birthday with him actually present to blow out the candles.

  13. I really like your Friday five this time, so I came to say hi.
    Happy anniversary tomorrow.

  14. Happy, happy anniversary! I love red maple leaves, too, but none are around here–We only have “live oak” trees, which do not lose their leaves in the fall. That’s the problem with being in south TX.

  15. happy anniversary of both kinds!! i’ve always wondered how it would be to live somewhere with four seasons – here it’s either hot or wet – this wekk may be our fall – it’s only 80 degrees – quite lovely. The Nonteen was shivering last week going to school – the temp was 56 – the next day he wore jeans and a hoodie.

  16. thanks for the great friday five.
I love your smell too, and happy anniversary!
AND, I totally concur with the use of fleece. As I type I am in mine complete with shearling slippers!
