To Eat With Unwashed Hands

But Peter said to him, "Explain this parable to us."

Then Jesus said, "Are you also still without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth enters the stomach, and goes out into the sewer? But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this is what defiles. For out of the heart come evil intentions, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a person, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile." (Matthew 15:15-20)

It may not defile, but to eat what has been cooked with unwashed hands, or in an unwashed kitchen, can definitely make you sick!

I got home mid-afternoon on Friday and felt tired, but assumed this was from traveling all day and being at a meeting with long hours all week. By dinnertime I suggested takeout rather than going to a restaurant. I ate about two bites of dinner and realized it was a bad idea, then spent the rest of the night being, well, sick.

Believe me, you don't want details.

Today I feel pretty wiped-out. But at least I am not defiled, right?

And I'm wondering about the other people who attended the conference since 25 or so of us ate dinner at the same restaurant approximately 24 hours before I got so sick. I've heard from RevFun, and he is in the same boat, which does not bode well for the other 23. At least I have the day off tomorrow, unlike RevFun, who has two worship services to lead.

Snowman and Light Princess are due back from their dad's house in a couple of hours, and Snowman has a friend visiting from Land O'Lakes Arts Academy. I figure we're calling out for pizza. For everyone but me.

The weirdest thing is that I was super-careful about washing *my* hands while I was away!

  1. What a bummer! Instead of couple time, you got…single time. Enforced. I’m so very sorry.
I would say you are definitely not defiled…not now.
Love and prayers for feeling better, and glad you have a quiet (?) Sunday ahead.
