Ruby tagged me, so here goes!
1.) What first tells you that Summer is here?
The blooming of the lilacs, in my backyard and all over City By the Sea, usually the last week in May. They did not disappoint this year!
2.) Name five of your favorite distinctively Summer habits or customs.
- Taking the dogs to the East End Beach at the end of a hot day
- Going to the Farmer's Market
- Evening walks in the neighborhood after dark
- Sleeping with the windows open
- Celebrating the anniversary of meeting Pure Luck (8 years this July)
3.) What is your favorite smell of Summer?
Lilacs, no contest
4.) What is your favorite taste of Summer?
Fresh picked strawberries!
5.) Favorite Summer memory?
Going out to meet Pure Luck on the Appalachian Trail–we met at the McDonald's in North Conway, NH, and you could smell his hiker aroma from across the restaurant! I was so glad to see him. Hiker meet-ups are the best.
6.) Extreme heat or extreme cold? Which would you choose and why?
Probably cold, but I'm not even sure why I say that.
7.) What books do you plan to read for the season?
Belong to Me (a gift from Ruby!)
Twilight (book-sharing with The Princess)
A Great and Terrible Beauty (ditto)
Cloud Atlas (because #1 Son insists)
Careless in Red (the new Elizabeth George; I am an Inspector Lynley groupie)
and many others, I imagine, though I wish the new George R.R. Martin might be among them, darn it!
8.) How does the Summer affect your faith? Is it a hindrance or an ally?
Absolutely an ally. I love the long season of Ordinary Time. I love the story arcs from the Hebrew Bible. I feel freer to mix things up in worship. And the wonder of Creation is all around me.
I'm not going to tag anyone, but feel free to play if you like!
