Knit Without Ceasing

I Need a Hat

ThistleIt is wicked cold here, and I would like to make myself a new hat using only materials already in my house. I have been searching the Internet for a pattern, but they are all in the round, and I don’t have the appropriate sized circular needles. Anyone have a thought about a hat that could be knit on straight needles with one skein of a beautiful bulky wool?

I will be forever grateful for your suggestions.

  1. I almost never use a pattern, but I’m at a loss for how to wing it on a hat not made in the round. I don’t think I have the necessary ability to think in 3D.
Could you use the smaller needles? Such a tightly knit hat would be warmer, anyway.

  2. I found a pattern with a seam and whipped it out this evening! I’ll take a picture in the morning and post the “recipe,” adapted from a cotton hat I made a few years ago.

  3. Thanks, Jane Ellen! I was actually talking to someone the other day about The Ships Project, but couldn’t remember the name of it. I’m glad to have the link!
