St. Casserole’s Cross-Wearing Meme

As posted at St. Casserole’s place this morning:

Do you wear a cross?
I do.

Is there a particular time or place that you consider wearing a cross?
Lately I’ve been wearing one almost every day, but generally I wear one on days I consider myself to be working.

Where do you wear it?
All the crosses I wear with regularity are on a necklace chain or cord.

What does the cross look like?
The one I’m wearing today is silver with lapis insets.

Who gave the cross to you or did you choose it?
My aunt brought it back from Brazil, a truly lovely and thoughtful gift.

Is this your favorite cross, if so, why?
I love this cross, but I also very much loved wearing a colorful wooden cross I think came from SERVV. I lost it this winter and miss it quite a lot.

What does wearing a cross mean to you?
I find symbols are becoming more important to me at mid-life, after a long stretch of feeling they weren’t necessary. The cross is an identifying mark, not so much for others, but for me.

Today I saw two women wearing the most beautiful cross I think I’ve ever seen, from the Common Cathedral in Boston. It contains the pain of the nails and the embrace of Christ in a way I have never seen in a cross before.

  1. My cross came from Brazil too. From Rio – it’s a copy of the Jesus statue and I got it for my 40 birthday from my son’s Godmother who went there on holiday.
I’ve worn it every day since then. Six years and counting
