As it happens, it’s a Bible verse, from a post of a sermon in April, 2004. Maybe I ought to read it again.

  1. Birmingham Blues 23:5 “If our legislators had done their jobs in the first place, it would have.”
    This was part of a rant about the $108,000 of taxpayers’ money that went to pay for a special session (rather than to education, health care, etc.) because the legislature couldn’t pass an operating budget during the regular session. They were too busy worrying about gay marriage and book banning. I do live in Alabama, after all.
    (And is there a trick to getting HTML tags to work here? Couldn’t get my italics to stick.)

    I love your 23:5! I’m at a UCC meeting, and we were just talking about how the national dialogue about gay marriage is a great distraction from actual problems: war, poverty, racism…
